UNIONS BY THE NUMBERS
The Department of Labor has filings on record for over 300 unions in Alabama
having a membership of 25 or more.
The largest labor union in Alabama, the United Steelworkers of America, had
17,468 members in 2008 followed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical
Workers (IBEW), 10,645 and the International Association of Machinists, 10,087.
Total union membership in the state now numbers 181,000, about 10.9% of the
workforce (BLS Survey, 2009).
